The Justice M. Dolores Denman Award was established by the Western New York Chapter of the Women’s Bar Association to honor the Honorable M. Dolores Denman, Class of 1965—the first woman to serve as presiding justice of the New York State Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Fourth Department. Justice Denman, a single parent while in law school, graduated as class valedictorian.
The Denman Award is presented to a graduating student who is a custodial parent, helping to offset daycare and other child-rearing expenses during the bar study period.
