The Experiential Learning Network is the University at Buffalo's central resource for hands-on learning. The Project Portal and ELN Digital Badges are designed to help you find the best opportunities to build experience for your career and demonstrate your skills to future employers and graduate schools.
This course is designed to provide students an opportunity to gain practical hands-on training, skill development and experience in a professional setting within the School of Law’s Clinical Legal Education Program or outside of the university and under the guidance of professionals in a work environment related to law or law-related work.
The number of credits earned is based on how many hours are worked in the internship (45 hours per credit). Students may earn either 3 credits (135 hours worked) or 4 credits (180 hours worked) of LAW 496. Students keep time records of their activities and respond to questions by writing reflections using the School of Law Clinic's time keeping and records program.
The internship placement cannot be paid. No internship credit will be awarded retroactively.

Other Internship Resources and Opportunities:
Law BA students may apply to pursue topics of their choice (that are not covered in any other given course within the department) with faculty members who agree to work with them. Students should contact a faculty member directly and explore topics and scope of project. LAW 499 will require a detailed syllabus or agreement be made for each student.
Because credit is earned for these courses, students should expect to devote the same amount of time that they would to any other upper division course in the major (if not more time).
No independent study credit will be awarded retroactively.
Eligibility
Prerequisites: Minimum institutional grade point average of 3.000, permission of instructor.

UB and SUNY offer students the opportunity to participate in study abroad programs during the Academic Year, Fall, Spring, Summer and Winter. Credits earned abroad can count toward your Law BA, UB Curriculum and/or free electives with appropriate approval.
Speak with your Law BA Academic Advisor to be sure you have a good understanding of what coursework you should be completing while studying abroad!
Undergraduate teaching assistants (UTAs) assist professors and adjunct instructors in preparing and grading assignments, exercises, and teaching materials, and tutoring students in the instructor’s primary courses. In the course of this work the UTAs learn to thoroughly understand the material being taught. Helping to instruct the students is a valuable learning experience for the UTAs.
Students may only enroll in LAW 495 twice. Only the first enrollment will count toward a Law BA - Advanced Law Seminar or Law Minor - Elective. The second enrollment will be a free elective course toward the student’s total credits needed to graduate.
Eligibility
Prerequisites: Junior status (60+ credits), overall GPA 3.0 or higher, minimum grade of A- in the course for which the student will assist, permission of instructor.
