Who gets priority for the New York City Program?

We are looking for a mix of students with strong qualifications and genuine interest. We want students who will benefit from the experience.

What does participation in the New York City Program mean for credits and other requirements for graduation?

The New York City Program provides a minimum of 12 credits, and satisfies the law school seminar requirement.  Most students complete an externship, for which they receive an extra 3 credits (for a total of 15 credits) and satisfy one half of their experiential learning requirement.

Important: Work with your advisor to make sure that your participation in the NYC Program does not prevent you from fulfilling your other requirements for your degree.  In particular, rising third-year law students subject to the “supplemental mandatory” curriculum must complete all required courses before participating in the New York City Program in the spring of their third year.

Is there housing available in New York City?

The Law School can provide advice on finding housing in New York City, and in some circumstances, can support student housing. Please contact Dawn Skopinski, associate director for advocacy and experiential learning, for current details
