The School of Law is addressing the changing market for legal services and law-related careers with its first ever undergraduate bachelor degree in law, designed to prepare students for careers that demand a sound understanding of law but do not require a licensed attorney.
This summer the School of Law’s mediation team, Rachel Vicario '20 and Darian Wilkom '20, advanced to the quarterfinals in the CDRC Mediation and Negotiation Competition held Vienna, Austria. Read about their experiences competing in this international event, pitting them against 85 other law students from around the globe.
Make way for the Justice Bus! Soon this new initiative will be rolling into neighborhoods and rural areas to provide on-the-spot legal help to poor and disabled people in Western New York.
As the new director of appellate advocacy for UB School of Law’s Advocacy Institute, Professor Lucinda Finley knows how challenging the art of appellate work can be. She’s done a lot of it herself, including handling appeals in several federal circuit courts and before the U.S. Supreme Court.
The School of Law’s signature vehicle for interdisciplinary scholarship, the Baldy Center for Law & Social Policy, is moving forward from last year’s 40th anniversary celebration with a new director. Following the retirement of Professor Errol Meidinger, who led the center for the past nine years, Professor Samantha Barbas has been named to lead the next chapter of its history.
Two former Baldy Center directors, as well as two other professors with UB School of Law connections, have been honored for helping to build a thriving organization of legal scholars.
