Student Directors and Advisory Board

The Student Advisory Board is the heart of the Buffalo Human Rights Center, providing it direction and support. Members assist the Faculty Director and Student Co-Directors in programming and planning human rights-related events, speakers, activities, and trainings based on student interests and priorities.

Student Directors

Aghoghomena (Mena) H. Arhere ’27 is a law student and a practicing attorney from Nigeria. Before attending law school, she served as counsel in a landmark case that struck down a Nigerian police regulation mandating the dismissal of unmarried pregnant policewomen.

At UB School of Law, Mena is a student attorney in the Entrepreneurship Law Center Clinic and an Associate of the Buffalo Law Review. Beyond academics, she serves as Pre-Law Director for the Black Law Students Association and works as a research assistant to Professor Guyora Binder.

Elnara Karadzhayeva ’27 is a law student at UB School of Law. Before law school, she worked as an employment specialist at Journey’s End Refugee Services, supporting refugees and immigrants in securing jobs and achieving self-sufficiency. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Canisius University, where she was a fellow in the Urban Leadership Learning Community scholarship program.

At law school, Elnara serves on the boards of the DEI Council, International Law Society, and Black Law Students Association, and is an Associate on the Buffalo Human Rights Law Review. Originally resettled in the United States at age four, Elnara continues to advocate for immigrant and refugee communities.
