For many different reasons, some people would prefer to start their law school career in the spring. Spring starts aren’t very typical for law schools - but they do exist!
The first year of law school is tpically very structured. It is designed to set the foundation of knowledge you will need to succeed in the second and third years.
Additionally, each entering class of students develops a cohort. These are designed to encourage strong camaraderie between the students. For the sake of continuity with the cohort and with the sequence of courses, having only a fall start is usually the most practical option.
UB School of Law does not offer a spring start. However, we do use a rolling admissions process. This means that you can submit your application within a very large window of time. We also offer both early and regular decision applications.
Early decision applicants must submit their application and a seat deposit by November 15. Additionally, if these applicants are accepted, they must refuse offers from any other schools they receive acceptance to and rescind any other applications.
Regular decision applicants are recommended to apply by March 1 for the best chance of being accepted while there are still seats available, but applications will still be accepted after that date. The June LSAT is also acceptable for regular decision applications.
Overall, spring starts in law school are few and far between. There are definitely schools that offer that option, but for many reasons, fall starts are significantly more common.
