Dear Conference Participants,
The National Black Law Journal (NBLJ) is very honored and excited to embark upon this collaboration with the Northeast People of Color Legal Scholarship Conference.
This year's topic, "America's New Class Warfare?" promises to raise some very enlightening discussions, particularly given our current economic and social conditions. We hope that you will submit your articles and works-in-progress to NBLJ for publication consideration. If you would like to submit a piece to the National Black Law Journal, please do so via ExpressO or email them to me directly (Brittani.Kirkpatrick@law.columbia.edu). Please indicate in some way that your submission is connected to our NEPOC collaboration.
Our submissions process for the Conference will operate as follows:
- Abstracts: We will collect abstracts on a rolling basis leading up to the conference. We are very interested in reviewing abstracts as this will give us a preview of what to expect during the conference
- First Drafts of Works: If available, we would like for interested authors to submit a first draft of the piece (either via ExpressO or email) by November 16, 2009
- Completed Drafts: Our final deadline for submissions will be December 30, 2009. Our hope is that this will allow time for any updates or edits after the conference discussions
Submission of a draft entitles the author to a very speedy consideration process. Due to the large number of works being discussed at the conference, we cannot guarantee publication upon submission. However, two members from our Editorial Board will be attending the conference and available to speak with you, specifically, about publishing with our Journal. Once we have received your submissions, we will make a decision regarding publication within one week.
Our hope is that submissions of a first draft will enable us provide decisions about publication earlier in the process. If you decide to submit a first draft for our consideration, we would ask that you not submit to other journals at that time. However, we will still accept submissions up until our December 30 deadline and will also provide decisions within one week.
Given our focus on issues facing people of color, we are very interested in building a strong relationship with NEPOC. To that effect, please feel free to reach out to me at any point if you have questions about submissions or the timeline.
We look forward to meeting you all at the conference and learning more about your work and current research.
Best regards,
Brittani Kirkpatrick
