WOMEN,
CHILDREN & SOCIAL JUSTICE CLINIC
at University of Buffalo Law School
Women, Children & Social Justice Clinic at the University of Buffalo Law School serves as a regional resource
center in the areas of domestic violence, interpersonal violence, elder
abuse, child abuse and sexual violence for the Eighth Judicial District
of New York State (including the counties of Alleghany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua,
Erie, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans, and Wyoming) as well as the counties
of Livingston, Monroe and Steuben.
In 1998 Women, Children & Social Justice Clinic was supported by a grant administered by the New York
State Department of Criminal Justice Services (NYS DCJS). The Clinic provides
technical assistance in the form of training and development of resource
materials tailored to the needs of each locale. The Clinic works closely
with each county, assisting in the development of community-coordinated
response to family violence.
Women, Children & Social Justice Clinic assists counties in developing and implementing domestic violence
protocols for their courts, law-enforcement personnel, social-service
agencies, health-care providers, and educators. The Clinic also identifies
the needs of under served populations and promotes cross county collaboration.
In addition, Women, Children & Social Justice Clinic provides domestic violence training for advocates, court
personnel and law enforcement officers. A training/resource manual produced
by the Clinic, can be adapted for use in any county throughout New York
State.
