Law Alumni Association Forms Regional ChaptersNow more than ever, you should be a member of the UB Law Alumni Association. In addition to the many great programs and services your membership dues have supported in the past, there are now four more reasons to join. Active alumni chapters have begun in Rochester, Albany, Washington, D.C. and Ohio. Our network of dedicated volunteers is growing rapidly resulting in new programs, additional events and more fun than ever. Check out what our Chapters are up to. Rochester, N.Y. Rochester CLE addresses down economy On May 14, 2009, the Rochester Chapter will host a CLE Program titled "Practice Development in a Down Economy." Attendees will earn 2.0 CLE credits in the area of Practice Management, and will learn from a panel of experts how to build their client base and market their practice in the face of today's economic pressures. The panel of experts includes Susan Saltonstall Duncan, President of RainMaking Oasis, Inc. in Old Lyme, Conn., Richard Moon, an international marketing and branding consultant with offices in London, England and Rochester, N.Y., and Charles A. Stillman, Esq. of Stillman, Friedman & Schechtman, P.C. in New York, N.Y. Immediately following the CLE Program, join Dean Makau Mutua to welcome UB Law's newly admitted attorneys in the Rochester area at a cocktail reception.
Washington, D.C. Washington alumni lead DC Day at UB Law On March 20, 2009, ten alumni from the Washington, D.C. area travelled to UB Law School to meet with current law students and offer them first-hand advice on starting and developing their careers in D.C. A full day of activities included career panel presentations, a networking luncheon, an informational session on working and living in D.C., and one-on-one mentoring sessions. Approximately 60 students participated throughout the day's events.
Albany, N.Y. Albany Chapter gets organized A committee of alumni volunteers met on March 31st to kick off the start of an Albany Chapter. The enthusiastic committee has plans for a wide array of activities including a reception with Dean Makau Mutua, a summer social event in Saratoga Springs, and a low-cost CLE program. The Albany Chapter will also be engaged in assisting the Law School's Admissions Office with outreach to prospective students, and will participate in the Law Alumni Association's membership drive.
Ohio Annual lunch inspires a new chapter For several years, alumni in Cleveland, Ohio have gathered together for an informal lunch on an annual basis. Hosted each year by Margaret W. Wong '76, the gathering has become a highly anticipated event, and has led to efforts to establish a more formal alumni chapter. With alumni scattered throughout Ohio, a state-wide Chapter is being developed. The Chapter will alternate events and programs at different cities throughout Ohio including Cleveland and Cincinnati. Wong and Susan H. Poole '97 are organizing the first meeting of the formal Chapter and are actively recruiting alumni volunteers. If you work or live in Ohio and would like to be involved in this initiative, email us today!
And Coming Soon New York, N.Y. The UB Law Alumni Association is pleased to announce the formation of an alumni chapter in New York City – home to over 1,700 UB Law graduates.
