Environment and Development Clinic
The Environment and Development Clinic works with local governments and community groups on issues emerging at the intersection of environmental and economic development concerns.
The clinic has been working in the area of renewable energy, exploring issues in municipal law and the environmental review process that arise when wind turbines are proposed for an urban setting. The latest project undertaken is an analysis of legal and policy questions related to developing offshore wind energy facilities in the lower Great Lakes.
For many years, the clinic has helped municipalities find solutions to legal and financial problems associated with redeveloping brownfields, such as abandoned factory sites, and issues related to the location and operation of commercial waste disposal centers. Other projects undertaken on behalf of non-governmental groups have focused on sustainable transportation issues.
